Non-profit preferable to private nursing homes??

According to this study by the Dept of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, data from 1965-2003 showed not-for-profit facilities led for-profit facilities in two of the four most frequently reported quality measures (more or higher quality staff and lower pressure ulcer prevalence). The other two quality measures, restraint usage and governmental regulatory assessments, also favored non-profits but not in a statistically significant way.  Quite surprising to me…this surely is not the last word.
