I really appreciate the data from this article, although I don’t agree with their suggestions for improving the grim scenario. It doesn’t shy away from the unpleasant situation we have today, where no middle-class family in any part of the country can pay for private nursing homes or in-house private care. The article takes its information from an AARP sponsored report, and uses median income vs median cost to arrive at its glum conclusions. Not a surprise particularly when you consider 54% of retirees have less than 25k saved according to this article from USA Today (2011).
