The state of the economy still makes many people skittish. Discounts are the most obvious way to entice reluctant customers to sign on the dotted line. Operators of assisted living communities in this article prefer onetime fee waivers or expiring discounts rather than across-the-board price reductions. Higher occupancy rates do not necessarily translate into higher valuations which are what REITs, private equity firms and hedge funds are most interested in.
